Mulheres de Fibra

About

Founded in 2009 in the Água Fria settlement, in the rural area of Maragogi (Alagoas, Brazil), the Women of Fiber Association brings together artisans who transform banana fiber into art. Inspired by the traditional Alagoas filé lace, they created a unique technique that blends sustainability, cultural heritage, and social innovation. What began with ten women has become a symbol of female empowerment and local entrepreneurship, strengthening both the community and regional identity. Maragogi is not just about crystal-clear beaches and natural pools — it is also a land of art, culture, and sustainability. Projects like the Women of Fiber Association showcase the authentic side of the region, where responsible tourism meets craftsmanship and tradition. Visiting and supporting these artisans means experiencing the true heart and soul of Maragogi, through the creativity and resilience of its people.
